Insurance Exemption
- Medical, hospital or disability benefits
- Fraternal benefit society benefits
- Life insurance policy cash surrender value not more than $1,500
- Life insurance proceeds if needed by beneficiary is spouse or dependent
Pensions for public employees and other pensions needed for support, ERISA. Aid for the blind, aged or disabled and AFDC. Social Security and old age assistance, Veteran’s benefits. Unemployment compensation. Worker’s compensation and occupational disease disability benefits.
Personal Property
- Animals, books and musical instruments up to $500
- Artwork depicting or done by a family member
- Bed, linens, carpets, washer & dryer
- Clothing (non-luxury – furs & jewelry do not count)
- Furnishings up to $500
- Automobile or truck up to $2,500
- Appliances such as fridge, freezer, stove & sewing machine
- Burial plot
- Tools of trade up to $3,500
- Military property of National Guard member
